    Mint Club (Seminyak Bali)

    Mint in Bali is pretty much the equivalent of Red Square in Jakarta: A small modern club, with electronic music, packed on weekends with:

    - Young (25-45) male single expatriates (and some tourists)
    - Indonesian girls, professional girlfriends for half of them.

    The music in Mint is actually quite good if you are into electro and they have at least once a month a reputed DJ.

    Drinks are expensive, 10$ for a bacardi coke, 12 for a mojito, and you have an entrance fee of up to 200k when there is a special event. Only visit during weekends as it is rather empty on weekdays.

    Overall: One of the top venues for nightlife in Bali (which does not mean a lot, please read my article: Bali nighlife). If you arrive early, you can get a few drinks in Mantra bar to warm up, it is just in front and usually busy.

    Bahiana Dhyana Pura Bali

    Owned by a French women, The Rum & Salsa Bar Bahiana is one of the most popular bars in Seminyak. It has a good party atmosphere early in the evening with always some special shows or events, in particular Salsa lessons and various dance performances. The music is cheerful and the mixed crowd of locals, expats and tourists make it a great place to start your nightlife in Bali.

    Bebek Bengil (Jakarta Branch)

    Bebek Bengil is a Balinese restaurant, originally from Ubud, Bali, which opened a branch in Jakarta in 2009.

    It was quite a challenge to re-create a Balinese atmosphere in Central Jakarta with the pollution and the traffic, but the final result is not bad. It would have been better to make it in a house in Menteng though because in its current location, you cannot help but see the towers all around the garden. There is another Balinese restaurant nearby which is more peaceful in my opinion, Baruna (see review).

    The specialty of Bebek Bengil (which means "dirty duck") is the Crispy Duck. They also have some popular Balinese, Indonesian and Western dishes, but I didn't try them.

    Here are a few pictures of the food we ordered:
    Appetizer: Crispy Mushroom (Rp34k++)
    Main course: Crispy Duck (Rp72k++)
    Dessert: Vanilla Ice Cream Tart (Rp35k++)
    I also had the "Hanoman street" mocktail (Rp35k++), very sweet but recommended.

    I'm not a big fan of Crispy Duck: I find there isn't enough flesh to bite into and also, you never know if it is a bone, the skin or the meat that you are eating... I must recognize though that the one in Bebek Bengil is very tasty, especially if you eat it with the Balinese sambal they give you. I only had small bites of the Crispy Mushroom and Vanilla Ice Cream Tart, and I thought they were average.

    Overall: Bebek Bengil is not an exceptional restaurant, but it is worth trying for its relaxing outdoor garden (far different from the original in Ubud, be warned!). Naturally, it is also recommended if you are a fan of Balinese-style Crispy Duck.
    Opening hours:
    Everyday, 11am to 11pm. Beware of mosquitoes if you come around sunset.

    Double Six Night Club Seminyak Bali (CLOSED)

    Update October 2011: Double Six is now CLOSED.

    Double Six Club, located in Seminyak, is one of the landmarks of Bali nightlife.

    Huge nightclub with electronic music with an indoor area and an outdoor area, around a swimming pool (and with the possibility to do bungee jumping). It is a real clubbing venue, with usually a good DJ playing non-commercial tunes. The crowd is made of a mix of expats and less tourists than Kuta, plus dozens of Indonesia girls, most of them half hookers. Drugs are often proposed inside and outside the disco but it's really dangerous to try in Bali so I strongly advise against it.

    Double Six is extremely uneven, with some absolutely extraordinary cool parties on some evenings and some very dull. The problem I think is that it is very big so unless there are over 200/300 clubbers, which is not so easy to have, it feels empty. The other thing with Double Six is that it doesn't get full until really late, 3 AM at least, sometimes 4 or 5, so you can never really know if it will be good or not until you wait a little. My advice is to go there only when they have special events, especially International DJs, or to try it around 4AM. If you find it boring, you can try La Vida Loca nearby in the same Double Six road or head to Kuta to Deejay Café, which is the only after in Bali to my knowledge..

    The club is over 22 years old so it is no longer the happening place it used to be. Yet, I still consider it to attract the best DJs and to have one of the best sound systems in Bali's nightlife.

    You can check for special events on Double Six facebook group here (from which I took the pics) or on its website http://www.doublesixclub.com/.
