Update December 2011: Coquelicot has changed owner in February 2011! We just revisited it and changed our previous review:
If you are craving for a cheese fondue, fresh foie gras, or other traditional French culinary trademarks, look no further, Coquelicot is the place. The atmosphere there has this little something that instantly brought me back to France.
When they moved to Jakarta a few years ago, Karen and Rico fell in love with this little bit of France lost in busy Jakarta, and finally took it over last February.
While conserving the place’s unique “cachet”, they revamped the menu, giving the restaurant a more traditional flavor, based on simplicity and good products. Coquelicot will provide neophytes with a great introduction to France’s traditional gastronomy, while temporarily relieving French expats from seasonal homesickness.
Overall:
Offering good quality for money, Coquelicot is an interesting alternative to more sophisticated French restaurants in Jakarta. I especially liked the friendly atmosphere and cozy French décor, which makes it fit for a family dinner as well as an intimate date. If you live in the area (Cipete/Kemang), I would strongly recommend that you give it a try.
